An unforgettable experience where culture, connection, and community come alive

Stepping into today’s session, my nerves were up, but so was my excitement. I had the privilege of interviewing and photographing someone whose story resonated deeply with the goals of my work. My prayer was simple: that I could find a way to connect my own story to hers, to honor her journey and capture her resilience authentically.

A New Friend!
A New Friend!

When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed into her home, not only by her but also by a beautiful mascot who stayed by our side throughout the interview, adding warmth and companionship to the atmosphere. Naturally, I couldn’t resist photographing him too! As we shared stories, she offered me a delicious coconut postre that instantly transported me to my grandmother’s kitchen, filling me with nostalgia and grounding me in our shared cultural roots.

Hearing her journey of resilience, while savoring those familiar tastes, reminded me exactly why I do this work. It’s moments like these—where every detail aligns with my vision—that fuel my dedication to documenting stories that celebrate the strength and spirit of our community.
