Speaking Out & Up for the Hispanic/Latino Community
Threads Of Resilience ~ Unite for Change is a soon to be non-profit organization
La Fuerza de Nuestra Lengua project is a heartfelt celebration of the resilience, cultural heritage, and voices of Latinos and Hispanics. Through intimate portraits and personal stories, La Fuerza de Nuestra Lengua aims to shine a spotlight on the unique journeys of individuals in our community—stories of fuerza (strength), fortaleza (perseverance), and orgullo (pride).
As a Newyorican born in the Bronx, raised by Puerto Rican parents, and shaped by cultural traditions and lessons passed down from my mother and grandmother, I deeply understand the importance of preserving and amplifying our voices. This project reflects my passion for creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, and celebrated for their identity and contributions.
PROJECT GOALS
-
Celebrate Cultural Identity:
Capture the richness of Latino and Hispanic heritage through meaningful portraits and narratives that honor our roots and lived experiences. -
Amplify Our Voices:
Provide a platform for individuals to share their personal stories of resilience, family, and community, fostering connection and understanding. -
Build Community Awareness:
Highlight the strength and diversity of our community while encouraging cross-cultural appreciation and dialogue through exhibits, publications, and social media. -
Create Educational Impact:Raise funds through the sale of photobooks to establish scholarships for Latino and Hispanic students pursuing higher education. These scholarships will help address disparities by providing financial assistance for books, computers, childcare, and other essential needs.

A Little About Me
I am a second-generation Puerto Rican, born and raised in New York City. As a single mother of two amazing children, my journey has been shaped by many challenges—navigating language barriers, experiencing homelessness, unemployment, and pursuing my education as an adult learner while raising my children. Yet, through it all, my faith, family, my roots, and traditions have instilled in me a resilience and strength I never knew I had.
Today, I am an educator working as instructional designer and a part-time photographer, using my experiences to inspire others and capture stories of resilience and pride.
